Steven R. Boyd, author of, "Patriotic Envelopes of the Civil War: The Iconography of Union and Confederate Covers."

Gerry's Monologue -
"This is Gerry Prokopowicz, with Civil War Talk Radio,...

...the letters that Civil War soldiers wrote home are a wonderful source of insight into what happened during the four years of the civil war. Historians have used them, for the last century and a half. James McPherson, in 'For Causes and Comrades,' writes that he looked at 30,000 such letters to write that book. But in looking at the letters, have we occasionally overlooked the container that the thing contained? Our guest today has not. Steven R. Boyd has written 'Patriotic Envelopes of the Civil War: The Iconography of Union and Confederate Covers' and we'll look at that interesting topic today on Civil War Talk Radio."
