Jimmy  Price December 2, 2011

Jimmy Price, author of "The Battle of New Market Heights."

Gerry's Opening Monologue -
"This is Gerry Prokopowicz, with Civil War Talk Radio,...

...when people talk about the United States Colored Troops, the USCT, most people think first about another black regiment, the 54th Massachusetts, stars of the movie "Glory." They think, perhaps of earlier black regiments raised in South Carolina, Louisiana or Kansas. They don't think of the 14 Medals of Honor awarded to USCT at the Battle of New Market Heights, outside of Richmond. How were these medals awarded? What did they do there? Why was this in some ways the most significant engagement fought by African-Americans in the Civil War? We will find out today when we talk with James S. Price, author of "The Battle of New Market Heights: Freedom Will Be Theirs by the Sword." He will be our guest today, on Civil War Talk Radio."
